Spain

At Colegio Añoreta we have morning recess from 10:35 – 11:05. Most students bring a snack from home to eat, which is often a sandwich and some juice.
We have to get energy so we can study, play and grow.

We eat lunch at 1:00 in the afternoon. A few students go home for lunch, but most of us stay at school and eat lunch in the school dining hall. We all have an ID card that we wear to show what kind of menu we should have: normal, allergies, low calorie, vegetarian or other.

The school Cooks and Kitchen staff make lunch for over 800 people every day.  The menu is designed by a dietician and everything is made here at school. This year our kitchen made some changes and now most of the ingredients used come from organic products. Our cooks are great! Sometimes they do special meals for classes that behave very well and sometimes they make special food for us, like strawberry-banana milkshakes or “torrijas”, an sweet Easter treat.

Here is a song that they sing:

Cocinero, cocinero, enciende bien la candela y prepara con esmero un arroz con habichuelas. Cocinero, cocinero aprovecha la ocasión. Que el futuro está muy oscuro, que el futuro está muy oscuro… trabajando en el carbón.

The kitchen staff helps to prepare the lunch trays for younger students. And when it's time to eat, we are always hungry...

When we are thirsty we ask for permission to stand up and fill up the pitcher of water in the fountain.

Our teachers eat lunch in the same place as us and they eat the same food.

In the kitchen, the cooks and staff have a board where they write down the menu for the week. As you can see, they have notes to help them remember what to give students who need a special diet.
