In Florence, on Easter Day, we
have a very especially tradition: the explosion of the cart. The
cart is pulled by white oxen in front of the open door of the
Dome, then an iron thread is tied from the principal altar of
the Dome to the cart. On the thread there is an artificial dove
with a little burned olive branch in its beak. The dove leaves
from the altar and arrives to the cart setting fire on it. If
the dove comes back to the altar, we’ll have a good year for
the agriculture. |
