Torre all'isola - Tower in the island plane

Non ci sono notizie certe sulla data di costruzione, ma approssimativamente si può collocare intorno al 1000-1100.
La costruzione  serviva  sia per  scopo  difensivo che di avvistamento, infatti era la più importante  opera  di difesa del territorio di Rignano. 
Nel 1200 assume alcuni caratteri della “casa da signore”.
Si chiama “Torre all’Isola”perché la torre era stata costruita su un’isola in mezzo al fiume Arno che era molto più largo rispetto a oggi.

There are not certain news on the date of building of the tower, but it is possible to place about  1000 or 1100. The building was used for defensive purpose and for sighting, in fact it was the most important building used for defence in Rignano territory. In 1200 it assumed some aspects of the "gentleman house".
It is called "Tower in the island" because the tower had been built on an island in  the Arno river which was larger than nowadays.
