Il paese si stende sulla riva sinistra dell’Arno, un po’in pianura e un po’in collina.
Il territorio del comune di Rignano è caratterizzato da dolci colline arrotondate e da un altopiano non vasto ( zona pianeggiante situata a circa 300 metri sul livello del mare). Le colline degradano in piccole vallate.
La vegetazione è costituita da: lecci, querce, robinie (acacie) e cipressi, alberi tipici della Toscana. Sulle colline i contadini hanno costruito i terrazzamenti cioè enormi gradini di terreno sorretti da muretti di pietra per aumentare lo spazio coltivabile.
Vi sono coltivati viti e ulivi, da cui si ricava buon vino e buon olio. Sparse, ci sono case coloniche, fattorie, ville, resti di antichi castelli, chiesette romaniche e monasteri.
Le case coloniche sono state ristrutturate e rese abitabili per le esigenze della famiglia moderna.
Sui poggi più alti restano piccoli borghi dove si riconoscono resti di antichi castelli come torri, mura, porte di accesso, che sorgevano a difesa del territorio.
Ora sono stati trasformate in suggestivi agriturismo.

The country stretches on the left bank of Arno, a little plain and a little in hill. The territory of the Rignano council is characterised by sweet rounded hills and by a not wide plateau (about 300 meters on the sea level zone). The hills slope down in small valleys.
The vegetation is cocomposed of: lecci (a kind of oak), oaks, locus-trees (acacie) and cypresses, typical Tuscany trees. On the hills the farmers have built the “Terrazzamenti” that is huge ground steps supported by walls made of stone to increase the cultivable space.
Vine and olive-trees are cultivated here, from which good wine and good oil are obtained.
There are farmhouses, farms, villas, ruins of ancient castles, Romanesque churches and monasteries. The farmhouses have been renovated and made habitable for the demands of the modern family. On highest hills there are small villages with remains of ancient castles as towers, walls, doors of access, which had been built to defend the territory. Now they have been change in romantic farms holidays.
